Bristol Motor Speedway Teen Driving Workshop

Landed a plane in the Hudson River lately? It’s amazing the success we can have at the controls when properly trained. Playing host to the highly respected Accident Avoidance Workshops, Bristol Motor Speedway is providing that kind of behind-the-wheel training to new drivers on March 29th, 31st and April 1st.

The Accident Avoidance Workshops offers an 8-hour, parent ride-along program in which students are trained on their own limitations and their vehicle’s limitations in “Emergency” Driving Conditions. They’re taught how to get the most out of braking and maneuverability without ever losing control of themselves, or their vehicle.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to provide your student the proper training they need before you send them out on to the open road. Call 770-262-7009 to register today.

Community Announcements

Now forming: Lakeway Regional Orchestra

An active group of musicians and music supporters in the Hamblen County area are forming the Lakeway Regional Orchestra. The purpose of the Lakeway Regional Orchestra is twofold: To entertain the community with live symphonic performances at little or no cost, and in the process of entertaining, maybe educate some as well; and to provide the musicians an opportunity to perform symphonic literature, and to continue their musical development.

At this point our plan is to form a string orchestra first, and once that solidifies a bit, to add in the woodwinds, brass and percussion. The goal is to draw musicians and audiences from the counties of Blount, Sevier, Jefferson, Granger, Hamblen, Greene and Cocke. Rehearsals will be in Hamblen County, at a location to be determined.

Musicians – violin, viola, cello and double bass – interested in forming the string section for an amateur, semi-pro, community orchestra should contact Vann Turner at (423) 487-5272. (No beginners at this time, please; if there is interest, we may form a youth orchestra later.)

High school and college-age string players who have studied for several years are encouraged to participate as well as area string professionals who currently teach and perform. Retirees and seniors are also encouraged to take their instruments from the cases, practice a bit to regain intermediate or better ability, and come join the fun.

All interested musicians are invited to participate in the planning meetings. Moreover, we anticipate starting string orchestra rehearsals just as soon as enough musicians step forward. For more information, contact Vann Turner at 423-487-5272.
